At 4am June 2nd, shotcreting and sealing work of the tunnel face for Bheri Babai Diversion Multipurpose Project has been completed, marking the successful completion of 150 meters bored tunnel, laying a solid foundation for the assembly and propulsion work of the tunnel boring machine (TBM) 3 months later.
The construction of 150 meters bored tunnel commenced on New Year’s Day. The project department imported construction machinery from China, and introduce operators to address the shortage of tunnel construction machinery and equipment in Nepal. With high quality and efficient operations, we had successfully completed the tunnel excavation work with project schedule and in strict accordance with the construction program and tunnel drawings, laying the groundwork for the follow-up works. The key construction machinery - tunnel boring machine (TBM) was accepted in Shanghai on May 18th. Disassembling and packing work were organized before shipping. The machine is expected to be shipped to the project site in Nepal within 3 months.
Most diversion and public transportation project are restrained by the fact that Nepal is a mountainous country. The advanced tunneling technology from China will provide technology to overcome the country’s terrain defects, obtain relevant experience, and generate positive social benefits.
