On August 12 local time, the key project sections (Zones 1, 2, and 3) of the railway loop for the Rio Tinto Simandou mining area in Guinea, constructed by COVEC, were successfully handed over. This milestone marks significant progress toward the railway’s full connectivity and the commencement of mining operations for the Simandou project.

 

 

At the handover ceremony, Rodney Harlan, Deputy Director of Rio Tinto’s Simandou project, congratulated COVEC project management team on achieving another critical milestone as scheduled. He expressed his high recognition of the team’s contract fulfillment capabilities and extended sincere gratitude for their contributions to advancing the railway connectivity and operational readiness of the Simandou mine. 

 

 

The successful handover of these key sections lays a solid foundation for the Rio Tinto mining area to achieve full railway integration and move toward final operational commencement.
