Enthusiasm for Public Affairs

COVEC actively participates in public affairs in local community and expresses the wish to develop together with the local society according to local media. In recent years, COMATEX S.A., Mali controlled by COVEC has been actively involved in local community activities, sponsoring local sport, medical treatment, and cultural activities. COVEC, as one of the first enterprises, began to join in HIV/AIDS prevention. Besides, COVEC organized the voluntary tree-planting activities and built rice mills for the local people. COVEC also sponsored the Artistic and Cultural festival in Mali, highly praised by the government and local residents of Ségou.

In Cote-d-Ivoire, COVEC established the first GMP standard pharmaceutical company in West Africa, and developed 24 medicines, such as anti-malaria and anti-inflammation drugs, which were common medications for African people. Through the Chinese embassy in Cote-d-Ivoire, COVEC donated medicines to the patients who were unable to afford them. This move not only improved the local medical conditions for local health level but also was highly praised by local government and people. For decades, LIC-PHARMA has always been trying to change the unpleasant habits of purchase from the venders. These medicines were illegally trafficked without any quality control, and most of which had no effect on diseases, but aggravated patients’ illnesses. This was very contradictory to what LIC-PHARMA pursued. Therefore, LIC-PHARMA promoted its medicines, guiding consumers to purchase drugs in authorized drugstores and informing them there were many medicines with low prices but good quality. After years of efforts, this habit harmful to the patients’ health has been corrected. This improvement was seen by the sales growth of LIC-PHARMA, which made it a win-win situation. Due to these seemingly trivial things, the name of “COVEC” was imprinted in local people’s hearts.
